Ingredients
Method
- Pour the espresso or strong black coffee into your serving cup. If using powdered sugar, add it now and stir until completely dissolved.
- In a chilled medium bowl, whip the heavy cream using an electric mixer or a whisk until stiff peaks form. For a sweeter cream, add a little powdered sugar while whipping.
- Transfer the whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe generous swirls over the coffee, aiming for a 1:1 ratio of cream to coffee. Adjust the amount to your preference.
- Dust the top with cocoa powder or shaved chocolate, if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes
For best results, use very cold cream and a chilled bowl. If you don't have a piping bag, spoon the cream on top. Make it ahead by whipping the cream and storing it in the fridge for up to 2 hours. Common mistake: over-whipping cream can turn it into butter. Serve with a spoon to enjoy the cream and coffee together. For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream whipped with a little sugar.
